Best Biodegradable Confetti for Weddings in Australia

That photo above is from my own wedding. We had just 25 guests — and yet the confetti looks like it’s absolutely everywhere. That’s what good biodegradable confetti does.
I’ve filmed hundreds of confetti tosses across the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, so I already had a pretty good idea of what worked before my own wedding day. But even knowing what I knew, the result still exceeded what I expected. The white rice paper circles from The Whole Bride floated slowly, caught the light beautifully, and created one of my favourite images from the entire day.
If you’re trying to figure out which biodegradable confetti to choose — and how much you actually need — you’re in the right place. I’ll walk you through exactly what I bought, why I chose it, and how to make your confetti toss look incredible on camera.
What Confetti I bought and Why
When it came to choosing confetti for our own wedding, I didn’t have to think too hard. I’d watched couples walk through confetti tosses at hundreds of weddings and I knew exactly what looked good on camera — and what didn’t.
We were getting married in Wanaka, New Zealand, so I wanted something that would travel well and be easy to manage on the day. I went straight to The Whole Bride and chose the Small Ultimate Confetti Bundle. For 25 guests it was more than enough — we had plenty to go around and the air was absolutely full of it, as you can see in the photo above.
The confetti itself is made from glutinous rice paper — 100% biodegradable and water-soluble. This is the stuff that makes confetti photos look the way they do. It’s lightweight enough to hang in the air for a long moment before it falls, which is exactly what you want for photos and video. And when it does land, it dissolves with water, so there’s no cleanup and no venue complaints.
I chose white circular discs specifically. Colours can look beautiful but white catches the light in a way nothing else does — and against almost any backdrop, sky, or outfit, it just works.
Tips for a Perfect Confetti Toss

When I walked through my own confetti toss I was genuinely surprised by how much was in the air. Looking at the photos and video afterwards, it looked even better than I expected. And I had high expectations.
Here’s what makes the difference:
- Throw up, not at the couple. This is the single most important instruction to give your guests. Confetti thrown upward creates that slow-falling snow effect. Confetti thrown directly at the couple lands on faces and sticks to outfits. Most celebrants will say this on the day but it’s worth reminding guests yourself.
- Toss by hand, not from the cone. The cones are perfect for displaying and handing out confetti to guests, but when it comes to the actual toss, hands give you a much better release and spread.
We actually forgot our cones in Australia — we got married in Wanaka, New Zealand — and our guests threw straight from their hands. Looking at the results, I’d recommend it that way regardless. - Line both sides of the aisle. This is what creates the tunnel effect you see in the photo above. One side is nice. Both sides is magic.
- Hand it out during the signing. While you’re signing the legal paperwork is the perfect time. Guests are relaxed, there’s no rush, and nobody is fumbling with cones at the last moment.
- Give a clear signal. Have your celebrant or MC cue everyone together. One big simultaneous throw looks incredible. A staggered sprinkle doesn’t.
- Order more than you think you need. I was surprised by how full the air looked with just 25 guests. If you’re on the fence between bundle sizes, go up.
How Much Confetti Do You Need?

The Whole Bride makes this straightforward with three bundle sizes:
The Small Ultimate Bundle is designed for 25 guests and includes 200g of confetti, 25 biodegradable cones and a cone tray. This is exactly what we used at our wedding and as you can see from the photo, it was more than enough.
The Medium Ultimate Bundle covers 50 guests with 400g of confetti, 50 cones and two cone trays.
The Large Ultimate Bundle is built for 100 guests with 800g of confetti, 100 cones and four cone trays.
My advice is to match your bundle to your guest count and not overthink it. The bundles are sized generously. That said, if you’re between sizes, go up — more confetti in the air is never a bad thing.
